Join a dynamic interdisciplinary panel discussion on "AI and Anti-Black Racism" on Tuesday, December 5, from 11 a.m. to 12:15 p.m. in the Stamp Juan Ramon Jimenez Room 2208. The Grand Challenges Anti-Black Racism Initiative is hosting six panelists: Dr. Sheena Erete from College of Information Studies, Dr. Lauren Rhue from the Robert H. Smith School of Business, Dr. Rachel Rudinger from College of Computer, Mathematical, and Natural Sciences; Dr. Psyche Williams-Forson from College of Arts and Humanities, Dr. Long Doan and Dr. Rashawn Ray (moderator) both from the College of Behavioral and Social Sciences.

Black Men & Mental Health

The University of Maryland Black Alumni (UMBA) Network in co-sponsorship with the Multicultural Involvement and Community Advocacy (MICA), Honors College, the Black Honors Caucus (BHC), Social Justice Alliance, and the Nyumburu Black Male Initiative present Black Men and Mental Health.

Using excerpts from the book "The Invisible Ache: Black Men Identifying Their Pain and Reclaiming Their Power" by Courtney B. Vance and Dr. Robin L. Smith as a springboard for discussion, we will hear from experts as we consider the mental health needs of Black men and the effect that it can have on families and communities. The discussion will also include testimonials and reflect on the benefits of focusing on Black men's mental health and the risks if we don't.

Black History Month Closing Ceremony

The Nyumburu Black History Month Closing Ceremony & Dinner will take place on Thursday, February 29 from 5:30 to 7:00 p.m. The keynote speaker will be Dr. Ambassador Margaret Dureke, with entertainment by O-Slice, Nyumburu Jazz Club and Student Dance Team. The event is free.

Cultural Centers Furniture Testing

You are invited on March 5 between 11 a.m. and 6 p.m. in the Grand Ballroom (first floor of Stamp) to test out the potential furniture for the five new Cultural Centers: APIDA Cultural Center, Disability Cultural Center, Latinx Cultural Center, Multiracial Cultural Center, Native and Indigenous Cultural Center. This is a drop-in event, meaning you can stop in at any point to test out the furniture and share your feedback on the furniture.
