    Join the BSU-UMD Social Justice Alliance, 2nd Lt. Richard W. Collins III Foundation, and the Mission Continues to honor the life and legacy of Lt. Richard Collins III through a day of service, reflection, and community impact. Volunteers will come together at City Ranch, under the direction of Cowboy Brandt, to build benches, clean up the grounds, and help map out new hiking trails in dedication to this courageous soldier’s memory. Whether you are a student, faculty or staff member, veteran, community member, or supporter, your participation helps ensure that Lt. Collins’ legacy of courage and compassion continues to live on through meaningful action. All are welcome.

  • Care in Crisis: How Black Women Pioneered a Black Feminist Politics of Social Reproduction

    The Harriet Tubman Department of Women, Gender, and Sexuality Studies will host Dr. Eshe Sherley, assistant professor of African American Studies at Wake Forest University, for a talk titled “Care in Crisis: How Black Women Pioneered a Black Feminist Politics of Social Reproduction.” The event will take place on Wednesday, February 25, 2026, at 4:00 p.m. in SQH 3105.

    Drawing from her book in progress, Care in Crisis, Dr. Sherley examines the activism and lives of working-poor Black women in Atlanta, highlighting how their organizing around care and social reproduction shaped both the city’s political landscape and the development of Black feminist thought.

Dr. Ball will be using his critically acclaimed book, "The Myth of Black Buying Power: Media, Race, Economics," as the centerpiece for his lecture and teach-in. His book dispels myriad myths and claims regarding the ongoing economic plight of Black America.
