The Nyumburu Cultural Center at the University of Maryland presents the NACPE Workshop Series, an engaging educational program designed to deepen participants’ understanding of Black/African history, social justice, political education, and important contemporary and historical events.

These workshops provide an opportunity to explore topics that are often overlooked, suppressed, or misrepresented in traditional educational settings. Participants will engage in meaningful discussions, interactive learning, videos, music, and other educational activities designed to encourage critical thinking and broaden perspectives.

WORKSHOP TOPICS INCLUDE:
ROOTS: BLACK/AFRICAN HISTORY
Explore Black and African history while gaining a deeper understanding of important historical events, people, movements, and contributions that have shaped communities and the world.

HIP HOP HISTORY & SOCIAL JUSTICE
Learn about the revolutionary and socially conscious side of hip-hop culture that is often overlooked or not taught. Videos and music will serve as points of departure for discussions about history, social justice, culture, politics, and contemporary issues.

ENGAGING TEACH-INS & WORKSHOPS
Participate in interactive teach-ins and workshops designed to create an engaging learning environment. Come learn with others about important topics that are frequently suppressed, misunderstood, or misrepresented.

WHO SHOULD ATTEND?
Anyone interested in Black history, African history, social justice, political education, hip-hop culture, community empowerment, and contemporary social issues is encouraged to participate.
