Terp Young Scholars (TYS), the university’s 3-week pre-college program for high school students, invites you to apply to be a Mentor for Summer 2024! This highly rewarding and well-paid position on campus requires only a three-and-a-half-week commitment.
TYS offers two learning options: in-person and online. Both options are offered July 8-26, 2024.
In both options, mentors work together to supervise Terp Young Scholars to ensure a safe, inclusive, diverse, and welcoming environment. Position descriptions and the application can be found on the Terp Young Scholars Mentor Opportunities Website.
Mentors for the in-person program work 8 hours per day between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. Mentors for the online program work 5 hours per day between 10 a.m.-6 p.m.
Requirements for all positions:
- Must have a desire to work with students ages 15-19
- Must be a UMD student
- Must attend mandatory training July 1-2 (in-person) or June 27 & July 5 (online)
Compensation:
- TYS Program Mentors (in person): $2,540
- Lunch is provided, a RecWell Membership (for program duration), and parking (if required).
- TYS Program Mentors (online): $1,700

Attend an information session to learn more about the program and ask questions. You must register for an information session to receive a Zoom link. Below are the information session dates being offered:
- Thursday, January 25, from 11 a.m. to noon
- Monday, January 29, from 11 a.m. to noon
