Course offering: Common Ground Deliberative Dialogues (Oct 23 – Dec 11)

Want to take a course that focuses on dialogue and conversations? Join the Deliberative Dialogue Course and discover the art of informed conversation. You will get to dive into thought-provoking discussions on hot-button societal issues, learn to bridge divides and amplify your voice for positive change.

Common Ground Deliberative Dialogues (CHSE 328C) is a 1-credit, 7-week course that will run from October 23 through December 11. The dialogues will take place on Thursdays from 4-6 p.m. This course is open to all undergraduate students and fulfills the “cultural competency” (DVCC) GenEd requirement. Here are some additional reasons you should enroll:

  • This is a unique opportunity to engage in student-led conversations with your peers about hot-button societal issues such as immigration reform, abortion laws, social media and cancel culture, and many other topics.
  • You will have a say about what issue you’ll be exploring in this course. After enrolling, students will fill out a Google Form where they will be able to vote on the topic of the dialogue.
  • It’s only a half-semester commitment led by trained undergraduate leaders, and you will earn credit.

If you are interested in enrolling, please email your name and UID to nkimani@umd.eduYou must email nkimani@umd.edu before you can register on Testudo by October 20. Please note that because this course does not begin until the second half of the semester, the traditional add/drop deadline does not apply, but you have to be in our system before you can register on Testudo.
