Junior DCC student and middle school math and science education major Bryant Rivera Cortez ’25 interned this summer as a circus instructor with Camp Lindenmere in Henryville, PA. Recruited to the camp through a networking site called CircusTalk, Bryant was responsible for developing a theme, setlist, choreography and costumes for student showcases at the end of each session. He combined his knowledge of pedagogy, human development, disability studies and philosophy to guide his students through the experience.
“One of my favorite showcases was ‘A Night at the Movies,’ where every act used music from memorable movie soundtracks like Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, The Lion King and Suicide Squad. Not only did I work with a wide range of music genres, but also a range of circus apparatus, some of which I’d never used before. Watching this show come together as campers grew as aerialists and people was an experience I’ll never forget.”
