EDGE program seeks applicants for Host positions

The Office of Undergraduate Admissions wishes to announce the availability of multiple “Experience Diversity Growth and Excellence” (EDGE) Host positions. The goal of Undergraduate Admissions is to recruit, admit and enroll talented students from diverse backgrounds who will enhance the university’s undergraduate experience. They are seeking Hosts who will support this process through their efforts made within the EDGE program and through building and maintaining relationships with prospective and current UMD students and parents, and by eliciting support for EDGE through the UMD community.

The EDGE Host program will provide students with an opportunity to gain first-hand experience within the field of higher education and essential professional skills such as communication, time management, organization and leadership. The Hosts will report to the EDGE Committee which is comprised of Office of Undergraduate Admissions staff.

Applications are due on March 9, 2023.

The primary duties are as follows:

  • Host one or more underrepresented, prospective student(s) of color
  • Assist the EDGE Committee in contacting, establishing and maintaining relationships with both current and prospective students

The Office of Undergraduate Admissions anticipates a commitment of time and energy from the Hosts. Hours will be primarily during the spring semester. EDGE Overnight Stay Programs are conducted throughout the month of March in coordination with the Admitted Student Open Houses. These programs will start in the morning with the arrival of the prospective students and will last throughout the day and overnight leading into the Admitted Student Open House on the following day. Hosts are primarily required for evening activities, overnight lodging and assistance on the morning of the Admitted Student Open House.

Host Qualifications:
1. Previous experience with EDGE or any overnight program is not required
2. If hosting, living on campus in traditional housing is required
3. Professional demeanor and adherence to all university and office policies
4. Solid academic standing
5. Strong communication and interpersonal skills
6. Ability to work as part of a team
7. Passion for increasing diversity and enhancing inclusion at UMD
8. Desire to share one’s UMD experiences with others
