Mission, Vision & Values

Anne Arundel Hall

Mission of the Honors College

To equip academically talented students at the University of Maryland to become ethical, informed, and engaged leaders in addressing grand challenges and advancing the public good.

We achieve this mission through:

  • Recruitment and Access: Attracting high-achieving, intellectually curious students from across Maryland and around the world, with a commitment to geographic, socioeconomic, and cultural diversity.
  • Inclusive Communities: Creating inclusive and supportive living-learning communities that promote belonging, well-being, and the exchange of diverse perspectives.
  • Interdisciplinary Curriculum: Offering small, interactive courses that introduce students to local and global challenges and equip them with analytical frameworks, research tools, and ethical reasoning to address those challenges.
  • Co-Curricular Opportunities: Facilitating learning experiences outside the classroom–including internship, research, leadership, and service-learning opportunities–that help students apply their knowledge and values in real-world contexts that serve the public good.
  • Student Development and Success: Supporting students’ holistic development, academic achievement, career preparation, and progress toward graduation, while preparing them to offer meaningful, lifelong contributions to society.
