S3C2 is seeking UMD students with cybersecurity and/or teaching experience to serve as instructors for SECURE IT Summer Camp, a cybersecurity-focused day camp targeted to middle school students.
The camp is scheduled for two weeks at the end of July and will be held in person on UMD’s campus.
- Beginner Camp: July 20-July 24, 2026
- Intermediate Camp: July 27-July 31, 2026
Instructors will receive training on the existing curriculum and classroom management.
Specific duties will include:
- Implement existing curriculum in collaboration with co-Instructors for up to 30 middle school students.
- Provide students with curricular support and feedback as needed.
- Manage classroom logistics, including supervising drop-off and pick-up, recording attendance, troubleshooting classroom technology, and implementing evaluative surveys, as needed.
Hours: Approximately 120 hrs
- During the two weeks of camp, you will work from 8 am-4 pm, M-F (80 hrs)
- Prior to camp, you will be required to attend various training sessions (including on health and emergency plans) and planning meetings. (20 hrs)
- You will also be responsible for individual review and prep work of the curriculum. (20 hrs.)
Compensation $16/hr
Minimum Qualifications: Must be enrolled as an undergraduate or graduate student at the University of Maryland, College Park. Must have demonstrated experience with or interest in cybersecurity, preferably via coursework or prior internships; however, expert-level knowledge is not required. While prior teaching experience is not required, applicants should feel comfortable providing instruction and speaking in front of a group, as well as have an interest in working with middle school students. The ability to work well in collaboration with others, including students, parents, and campus partners, is desired. Attention to detail, initiative, flexibility, and reliability are essential. Must be able to pass a background check that includes fingerprinting.
Preferences: Prior instructional experience with K-12 students.
