Vertically Integrated Projects (VIP) provides UMD students of all backgrounds, disciplines, and levels of experience with the opportunity to engage in scaffolded, multidisciplinary team-based projects. The VIP program allows faculty to launch multidisciplinary, scaffolded Teams to pursue research, innovation, and design projects across multiple semesters.
VIP continues its campus-wide expansion through a partnership between OUR and the A. James Clark School of Engineering. As of Spring 2026, fourteen VIP Teams have launched, representing six schools, colleges, and other UMD organizations.
The goal is to continue growing this initiative to serve hundreds of undergraduate students and dozens of campus partners by operating VIP Teams from every school and college. Learn more about submitting a VIP Team Proposal.
