Engineering Academic Peer Coaching Position – Apply Now

Apply to serve as an Academic Peer Coach for Clark students.

Academic coaching focuses on academic, professional, and personal concerns and perceived barriers to success. Coaches provide individual support and devise a personalized plan of action to develop skills such as time management, procrastination, test preparation, note taking, interview skills, and more.

Who is an Academic Peer Coach?
An Academic Peer Coach is an undergraduate engineering student who has a proven track record of success in the A. James Clark School of Engineering. Coaches are students who care about supporting their peers and understand that academic success is a complex process that requires various skills (e.g., time management, study skills, self-efficacy, etc.).

Qualifications:

  • 60 or more cumulative undergraduate credits at start of Fall term (Junior/Senior Standing)
  • At least 3.3 cumulative GPA 
  • B- or higher in MATH141, PHYS161, and CHEM135
  • Ability to manage time and work independently

Responsibilities:

  • Meet with student appointments every week to guide them through their academic, professional, and social concerns (including drop-in appointments)
  • Fill out Action Plans to help students achieve their goals
  • Work on a semester-long project related to APC 
  • Help with program marketing efforts (i.e., emailing, tabling, developing newsletters, etc.)
  • Attend 30-minute biweekly meetings throughout the semester

Time Commitment:

  • Peer coaches will work 8 hours per week total (on Zoom and in-person) from August 25, 2025 – December 12, 2025
    • Coaches are expected to work in-person at least 4 hours during the week
    • Coaches are expected to attend 30-minute biweekly in-person meetings throughout the semester (time TBD)
    • Applicants should be available to work during the following dates:
    • Training & Coaching Orientation: August 25th – August 29th (virtual)
  • ClarkLEAD Transfer Welcome Event: August 29rd (in-person)

Compensation: $2,000 stipend for the Fall 2025 semester paid out in two blocks throughout the semester (approximately every other month).
