Professors Robyn Muncy and Larry Washington Receive Winston Family Honors Faculty Award

Congratulations to this year’s Winston Family Honors Faculty Award recipients, Professor Robyn Muncy (History) and Professor Larry Washington (Mathematics)!

The Winston Family Honors Faculty Award is given each year in recognition of meritorious contributions to Honors students, classes, and programs on this campus. The award recognizes outstanding faculty advising, mentorship, and supervision of Honors students. Nominees must be tenure-track or professional-track faculty members who serve, or have served as Departmental Honors directors and/or undergraduate thesis advisors.

Professor Robyn Muncy, History

As director of the History departmental honors program, Professor Robyn Muncy mentored 44 students through original, in-depth thesis projects, guiding research on topics from medieval Europe to postcolonial Asia. Her students have earned top university distinctions and continued to prestigious graduate programs nationwide. The selection committee unanimously recognized Professor Muncy’s “boundless enthusiasm,” personalized support, and commitment to fostering intellectual curiosity and critical thinking among Honors undergraduates.

Larry Washington

Professor Larry Washington, Mathematics

 Over 25 years, Professor Larry Washington has mentored 24 Honors mathematics students, guiding them to produce exceptional research, including five publications in mathematical journals. His dedication to outreach has inspired countless students to pursue advanced study in mathematics. The selection committee praised Professor Washington as a visionary leader in undergraduate education whose mentorship and passion for mathematics have left a lasting impact on the Honors community and the university as a whole.

We are grateful to Roger Winston (’76), Karen Winston (’75) and their daughter Emily Winston (’06), whose generous gift provides these merit awards.
