Apply to UMD’s Maximizing Access to Research Careers (MARC) Program

The University of Maryland is now accepting applications for the third cohort of the Maximizing Access to Research Careers (MARC) Program! The goal of the MARC research training program is to develop a diverse pool of undergraduates who complete their baccalaureate degree, and go on to pursue research-focused higher degree programs (e.g., Ph.D. or M.D./Ph.D.) in the biomedical sciences (including bioengineering related disciplines). The MARC Program is accepting applications from students at the end of their first year only or those expecting to require 3 more years to graduate

Accepted students will begin the program in Summer 2025, their sophomore year, and will participate for three years. The program includes:

  • Financial support, including tuition, fees, and a stipend
  • Laboratory research with an investigator in the biomedical field
  • Training in research best practices and scientific communication
  • Opportunities to attend a scientific conference, learn about graduate school, and build a professional network
  • Education in financial literacy
  • Mentoring and community building

The application for the MARC program is now available at the link below! Please let the program directors (Dr. Stroka, Dr. Clyne, Dr. Wu, or Dr. Maisel) know if you have any questions as you consider your application. See also the brief video and presentation below for an overview of the program.

The submission deadline is February 28, 2025. We anticipate that decisions will be made on acceptance by early April.

Watch their MARC Program video, including testimonials from current MARC students.

Post expires at 11:59 pm on Friday, February 28, 2025.
