OURS100: Entering Research Spring 2025 OURS100: Entering Research is a one-credit, half-term, asynchronous course designed to prepare and guide undergraduate students from any major through the process of finding their first research experience at UMD. What is this Course? Designed for students who are interested in getting involved with undergraduate research, OURS100: Entering Research provides a structured, step-by-step approach to developing a path to undergraduate research experiences. From identifying research interests to confidently contacting faculty members, this course will help students develop essential skills for engaging in research and building transferable skills in professionalism and communication. During the course, students will be immersed in an online community of peers seeking research opportunities while receiving direct support and peer mentorship from experienced undergraduate researchers. Who Should Take OURS100: Entering Research? Students interested in being prepared to find and contact a research mentor by the end of the half-semester course.Students with limited or no prior research experience. Students from any and all majors at UMD. |
OURS308: Peer Mentorship – Supporting Students Entering Research Spring 2025 OURS308: Peer Mentorship – Supporting Students Entering Research is a one-credit, half-term peer mentorship experience that gives undergraduate researchers a unique opportunity to further develop their leadership capacities while serving as peer mentors to students in the introductory course OURS100: Entering Research.What Is This Course? Enables student researchers in all fields of study to examine and participate in the practice of peer mentoring. Course participants will serve as peer mentors to students in OURS100: Entering Research. The work of peer mentors in the course will be grounded in discussions and materials that prepare them for their mentoring engagements, and peer mentors will have opportunities to reflect individually and as a group on their experiences as mentors and the ways in which these experiences will inform their future work in research and other settings. |
