The University of Maryland Honors College has selected Dhruvak Mirani ’26 for the 2023 Gordon Prize in Managing Cybersecurity Resources. Mirani was recognized for this award at the Honors Citation Ceremony on April 28, 2023.
In “Cybersecurity Resources in the Public Sector: Contemporary Recommendations,” Mirani argues that the kind of careful cybersecurity resource allocation analysis frequently conducted in the private sector must be brought to the public sector, particularly the federal government. Marshaling to public purposes the famous Gordon-Loeb model pioneered by Drs. Larry Gordon and Martin Loeb at UMD, Dhruvak calls for a reimagining of chain of command, communication and cyber resource allocation structures within the federal government, including filling the current vacancy in the Office of the National Cyber Director. Mirani was awarded this year’s Gordon Prize because he exemplifies a spirit of courage and public aspiration that runs across the Honors College.
