Working on or looking to work on a cool project? Startup Shell is UMD’s home for builders, designers, and entrepreneurs. They are a student-run co-working space designed to help you find the people and resources that you need to build the next Google or Oculus. Their founders have been a part of YCombinator, raised multimillion-dollar seed rounds and exited their companies. They also accept fellows with particular skill sets who can join exciting projects, get top internships and even start their own companies.
Members of Shell get access to their 24/7 co-working space on campus (next to Iribe) located in the EA IDEA factory. Their space has dedicated server hosting for members, a dual 3090 ML rig, top-of-the-line audio/video equipment and many more resources for members. Additionally, they launched their Founder Kit last semester which encompasses well over $50K in resources ($20K fee-free Stripe processing + 50% off Atlas incorporation, 6 months free Vercel Pro, $1.5k Snap ads, among about a dozen other services). Explore the full list at startupshell.org/resources.
Startup Shell regularly hosts successful founders, side-project hackathons and other fun workshops/social events open to all students.
