SUMMARY:Hope\, Healing\, and Mobilizing Against Hate
DESCRIPTION:In honor of the 100th anniversary of Black History Month\, the organizers invite campus community members to the next Hope\, Healing\, and Mobilizing Against Hate session on Friday\, February 27\, 2026\, from 12:30 p.m.–3:30 p.m.\, with lunch provided from 12:30–1:00 p.m. (no pork or seafood will be served). Everyone is welcome to attend this event\, consistent with long-standing practice for events on the University of Maryland campus. \nThis is the seventh gathering in a series\, begun in February 2024\, designed to build community\, capacity\, and connection among students\, staff\, and faculty at UMD who are centering racial and social justice and the dignity\, safety\, belonging\, and humanity of all people in their work and lives. The session will offer opportunities to get to know one another and build trust and connection across campus coalitions; show an ethic of care and love during this time; break out of silos; build capacity for this chapter of work toward racial justice; and center care for participants’ bodies. \nThe gathering will include a facilitated session for participants to learn about and discuss how to strengthen resistance through community\, with a focus on specific skills and practices for audaciously building community and connections during this time. To make the shared space more accessible for individuals with chemical sensitivities or chronic migraines\, attendees are asked to avoid perfumes\, colognes\, and strongly scented personal products. \nThese 2026 sessions are sponsored by the Anti-Black Racism Initiative\, the Division of Student Affairs\, the School of Public Health\, College of Information OACES\, TerrapinSTRONG Education\, the LGBTQ+ Equity Center\, the University Libraries\, and Bias Incident Support Services (BISS). DESCRIPTION:Join the BSU-UMD Social Justice Alliance\, 2nd Lt. Richard W. Collins III Foundation\, and the Mission Continues to honor the life and legacy of Lt. Richard Collins III through a day of service\, reflection\, and community impact. Volunteers will come together at City Ranch\, under the direction of Cowboy Brandt\, to build benches\, clean up the grounds\, and help map out new hiking trails in dedication to this courageous soldier’s memory. Whether you are a student\, faculty or staff member\, veteran\, community member\, or supporter\, your participation helps ensure that Lt. Collins’ legacy of courage and compassion continues to live on through meaningful action. SUMMARY:Hope\, Healing\, Mobilizing: Lessons from Trans Liberation Movements
DESCRIPTION:The Hope\, Healing & Mobilizing Against Hate Committee invites members of the University of Maryland community to attend its next session on November 20\, 2025\, from 12:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.\, with lunch provided. As has long been the tradition for campus events at the University of Maryland\, everyone is welcome to participate. \nThis session marks the committee’s sixth gathering since February 2024 in a continuing series designed to strengthen community\, capacity\, and connection among students\, staff\, and faculty who center racial and social justice in their work and daily lives. The event will provide opportunities to build trust across campus coalitions\, express care and solidarity\, break out of silos\, enhance capacity for racial justice initiatives\, and emphasize the importance of caring for one’s body and well-being. \nThe program will feature a keynote and facilitated dialogue focused on Lessons from Trans Liberation Movements. \nSchedule: \n\n12:00 p.m. – Lunch and Welcome\n12:30 p.m. – 4:30 p.m. – Session: Lessons from Trans Liberation Movements\n4:30 p.m. – Trans Remembrance Vigil\n\nAttendees are asked to avoid wearing perfume\, cologne\, or strongly scented products to create a space that is accessible for individuals with chemical sensitivities or chronic migraines. \nThis session is sponsored by the Anti-Black Racism Initiative\, the Division of Student Affairs\, the School of Public Health\, the College of Information OACES\, TerrapinSTRONG Education\, the LGBTQ+ Equity Center\, the University Libraries\, and Bias Incident Support Services (BISS). \nAll are welcome to attend.
