DESCRIPTION:CP Flea is a pop-up outdoor flea market that will showcase various student-run small businesses selling vintage and handmade goods to promote sustainable shopping. The fashion industry accounts for an astonishing 10% of carbon emissions and is one of the biggest polluters in the world. CP Flea encourages college students to shop purposefully while discouraging the “disposable” mentality so prevalent in the world of fast fashion. A portion of all sales proceeds will be donated to Remake\, a nonprofit organization that advocates for fair pay and climate justice in the clothing industry.\n\n\nThis event is organized as part of DCC student Samantha Liu’s capstone project.

DESCRIPTION:The Mid-Atlantic Research Day is a collaborative event between the BMES of Johns Hopkins University and the University of Maryland\, College Park where students are able to showcase their research in a poster format (and compete against others for a $5000 prize pool). This year\, it will be held on the JHU campus on May 6\, 2023\, from 10 AM to 5 PM. Abstract submissions are due on March 31\, 2023. The Ficshell Department of Bioengineering is working to arrange transportation for this event. During this all-day conference\, students from all domains in the biomedical sciences can showcase their cutting-edge research and have the opportunity to participate in networking events\, discover new internships\, hear keynote speakers\, engage in career-building workshops\, enjoy free catered food\, and attend a mixer. She is currently a member of the Maryland General Assembly\, serving in her second term\, where she is the Chair of the House Democratic Caucus\, the Chair of the Appropriations Subcommittee on Health and Social Services\, and the Vice Chair of the Montgomery County Houses Delegation. Shetty teaches the UMD Fellow Program’s Civic Leadership and Human Services Seminar. \nShetty has been active in local advocacy and organizing for over ten years. She served as the Vice-chair of the Montgomery County Democratic Party\, founded the Advocacy Committee within the Woman’s Democratic Club of Montgomery County\, and served on the board of Action Committee for Transit\, where she advocated for improvements to pedestrian safety and local transportation options. \nMolly McKee-Seabrook\, Associate Director of Government Relations at UMD. Seabrook worked as a legislative aide for state Sen. Bill Ferguson (D-Baltimore City) before becoming his chief of staff for eight years. In her current position with the University of Maryland she advocates for bills on behalf of the school and the university system. \nA Student Panel of UMD Fellows Program Graduate Assistants\, Jamal Oakman\, Jen Solan\, and Adam Cullen will also speak about their experiences interning at MGA.
