DESCRIPTION:On April 10th\, the Diversity Training & Education unit within the Office of Diversity & Inclusion is bringing Dr. Veronica Carey\, Assistant Dean for Diversity\, Equity and Inclusion at Drexel University and Associate Clinical Professor in the College of Nursing and Health Professions\, to campus for an in-person student facing talk. She will be engaging students in a conversation related to her book\, Frame Your Degree: How to Avoid Pain While Seeking a College Degree.\n\nDr. Carey will share strategies on how to survive and thrive in a college environment as a student of color. She will give tactics on how to advocate for yourself\, financial aid\, resume building\, grad school admission tips\, maximizing internships\, and how to gain transferable skills to achieve post-graduate success. DESCRIPTION:The inaugural Black Entrepreneurship Summit during Black Alumni Weekend will bring together entrepreneurs\, students\, and advocates for a day filled with panels\, networking\, and more. The summit will include dynamic speakers and sessions that will help you with your business. \nThe purpose of this summit is to address the unique challenges faced by Black entrepreneurs and cultivate a supportive community that encourages collaboration\, mentorship\, crowdsourcing ideas\, and provides actionable approaches to entrepreneurship challenges. Promoting diversity in entrepreneurship enhances innovation and brings different perspectives to the business landscape. Supporting Black entrepreneurs contributes to economic empowerment within communities and reduces wealth disparities. The summit will include  dynamic speakers and sessions that will help people with their businesses. By bringing together Black entrepreneurs\, professionals\, and allies in the entrepreneurship space\, the summit aims to provide insights\, strategies\, and practical\, applicable solutions to overcome barriers and promote the success of Black business owners. SUMMARY:Restorative Circle Sessions
DESCRIPTION:The Dean’s Student Advisory Council in the College of Behavioral and Social Sciences\, in conjunction with the Justice & Legal Thought Scholars Program\, MLAW Programs\, and BSOS TerrapinSTRONG is hosting an event focused around restorative justice education. \nThis event will include two restorative circles that will be led by trained student facilitators who are UMD students themselves! Attendees will have the chance to participate in open conversations covering various topics such as burnout\, balancing work and school\, mental health\, support from university administration\, and more. Our aim is to foster a stronger BSOS community! \nIt will take place Tuesday\, April 23rd\, 5-6:30PM\, in Tydings 1114 and 1118. They will also have snacks available for attendees. No prior knowledge about restorative justice is required. All students\, staff\, and faculty members are welcome and encouraged to attend!
