She is currently a member of the Maryland General Assembly\, serving in her second term\, where she is the Chair of the House Democratic Caucus\, the Chair of the Appropriations Subcommittee on Health and Social Services\, and the Vice Chair of the Montgomery County Houses Delegation. Shetty teaches the UMD Fellow Program’s Civic Leadership and Human Services Seminar. \nShetty has been active in local advocacy and organizing for over ten years. She served as the Vice-chair of the Montgomery County Democratic Party\, founded the Advocacy Committee within the Woman’s Democratic Club of Montgomery County\, and served on the board of Action Committee for Transit\, where she advocated for improvements to pedestrian safety and local transportation options. \nMolly McKee-Seabrook\, Associate Director of Government Relations at UMD. Seabrook worked as a legislative aide for state Sen. Bill Ferguson (D-Baltimore City) before becoming his chief of staff for eight years. In her current position with the University of Maryland she advocates for bills on behalf of the school and the university system. \nA Student Panel of UMD Fellows Program Graduate Assistants\, Jamal Oakman\, Jen Solan\, and Adam Cullen will also speak about their experiences interning at MGA.

DESCRIPTION:Student Entertainment Events\, in partnership with the LGBTQ+ Equity Center\, Omicron Delta Kappa\, and the School of Public Policy Alumni Network\, is hosting a special advance screening of the first episode of “Fellow Travelers.” This screening will be followed by a Q&A with their producer Robbie Rogers\, who is a former UMD and professional soccer player. There will be an option for a meet and greet with Robbie for attendees. \nFellow Travelers is an American historical romance political thriller television series exploring a decades-long romance between two men who first meet during the height of McCarthyism in the 1950s. DESCRIPTION:Join the UMD Libraries as it hosts an opening reception to celebrate a new major exhibition titled\, Rising Up: 100 Years of Student Activism for Justice and Civil Rights at the University of Maryland. The exhibit will be on display in the lobby of Hornbake Library during the 2023-2024 academic year and features archival photos\, oral histories\, multimedia displays\, and memorabilia documenting the history of student activism at the University of Maryland.
